Overview

When memory foam mattresses first started overtaking traditional innerspring models in popularity it was because of how comfortable and cozy they made sleepers feel. Enveloping you inside of its soft, plush layers, most memory foam mattresses made people feel like they were sinking deeply into their bed each night, versus innerspring mattresses that you simply slept on top of for maximum support. The downside, however, is that early memory foam designs were so heavily focused on comfort that they failed to incorporate those necessary support elements and so while sleepers drifted off comfortably, they often woke up sore.

Lull has taken many of the common complaints sleepers have had about memory foam mattresses over the years and designed their model so that it remains just as comfortable, but with a much firmer support base in place. As a fully online bed-in-a-box brand, the Lull mattress has eliminated many of the bells-and-whistles that other companies focus on, instead choosing to create a very simple, and very effective design that performs beautifully night after night.

Giving you additional support in key places, the Lull mattress promotes proper spinal alignment and boosts lumbar support to ultimately reduce pressure in common areas such as the shoulders and hips. Enjoyed by virtually all sleep positions, the Lull is one of the few memory foam mattresses that even stomach sleepers can enjoy as it’s firmer-than-average foam will prevent too much sinkage and thus won’t create neck strain.

Simple, affordable, and with a great balance between comfortable and supportive, the Lull mattress stands out as one of the best options for anyone who is seeking to upgrade their mattress and who wants the best performance for the best price.

Construction

At 10” in height, the Lull is made from 3 layers of CertiPUR-US Certified foam and uses gel infusions in the top layer to help promote airflow and draw heat away from your body while you sleep. Offering a better body fit and the ability to conform to each curve as you switch positions, this is a mattress that evenly distributes your weight and keeps your spine aligned so that you reduce any back pain and wake up without feeling sore.

  • Cover
Made right in the USA, the cover on the Lull features a two-tone fabric that is both soft and breathable. Durable and with the ability to be hand washed, the cover should keep the mattress protected and looking like new for years to come.
  • Comfort Layer
Featuring a 1.5” of memory foam, the comfort layer has been infused with gel to enhance the cooling properties and prevent heat from building up and making sleepers too hot. Slow to respond to the pressure, the foam does create that common sinking feeling and will contour to your body to enhance the pressure relieving properties of the mattress.
  • Transitional Layer
Adding another 1.5” of height to the design, the transitional layer is built using a firmer polyfoam that is much quicker response time than the above comfort memory foam. The added bounce and firmness from this layer makes switching positions easier and it also helps to balance out how soft the memory foam is in order to still provide you with much needed support.
  • Base Layer
Making up the final 7” of the Lull mattress, the base layer is made from a high-density polyfoam that is extra firm. Keeping the structural integrity of the bed intact and making it durable and long-lasting, the base layer also contributes to making the Lull more supportive and will prevent you from sinking in too deep while you rest.

Rating

The Lull mattress is only available in one option and you cannot customize the height or firmness. Best suited for those who enjoy a mattress with a bit more firmness, the Lull is still suitable for virtually all sleep positions, with the only real difference being overall weight. Lightweight side sleepers may be the one group who do find the Lull to be a bit too firm, as their shoulders and hips may not sink down as far as they generally prefer. However, this does mainly come down to personal preference and your 365-night sleep trial will be your best opportunity to see how it matches up with your own needs and wants.

  • Firmness
    7.5 out of 10
With the average memory foam mattress typically falling around a 5.5 to 6 on the firmness scale, the Lull is considered to be a firmer-than-average option for those who may have previously found that foam mattresses simply didn’t give them the support they needed. How much each sleeper weighs, however, will directly impact how firm it ultimately feels, with those under 120 lbs likely finding it much closer to an 8, and those over 220 lbs leaning more towards a 6.5.
  • Temperature
    3.5 out of 5
Memory foam has a tendency to retain heat due to the lack of airflow throughout the interior of the mattress. Lull attempts to combat this by incorporating a gel-infused foam at the very top of the design, which does an adequate job of pulling some heat away from you at night. Although it will never sleep as cool as an innerspring mattress, the Lull does perform better than other similar designs and models on the market.
