Overview

Finding the right mattress for you takes a lot of work and research, but at the end of the day it mostly boils down to personal choice. What position you sleep in, what your body type is, and who you share a bed with can all impact that final decision. But if so many different factors contribute to making a mattress comfortable and supportive enough for each person, why do so many mattress brands rely on a one-size-fits-all design that limits firmness, feel, and support to a standard setting?

Helix has decided to take a different approach to designing mattresses and has done away with the outdated idea of creating one flagship model that is meant to fit everyone. Creating a line-up of 7 unique mattresses, as well as an additional 6 luxury versions, Helix has focused their attention on the differences that individuals need when they lay down to sleep and it has paid off. Personalized and designed to be the right fit for you, Helix does all of the hard work for you and delivers a customized mattress that feels like it was made specifically for your body.

Whether you like your mattress to be soft, medium, or firm, Helix has it all and they even cater to specific sleep positions as well. While other brands tend to only be best for one type of sleeper, Helix has models that are meant for side sleepers, back sleepers, and even stomach sleepers so you can get a great night’s rest however you like. Unsure what’s best for you? Helix has designed a color-matching online quiz that will analyze your body type and preferences, ultimately recommending the model that is suited to you.

Featuring affordable pricing, a 100-night sleep trial period, and a 10 to 15-year warranty, these hybrid mattresses are crafted from premium materials and delivered directly to your doorstep. Blending memory foam, latex, and individually-wrapped coil under a plush, soft cover, you won’t believe how comfortable and supportive your new Helix mattress truly is.

Construction

Each of the standard mattresses offered by Helix are made using both 4” of premium foam as well as an additional 8” of individually wrapped coils. The type of foam used depends on the firmness as well as the preferred sleep position of the individual, and Helix has designed each foam themselves to ensure it is durable, long-lasting, supportive, and comfortable. All 6 models do use the same DuraDense foam as a base, but it is the comfort and transitional layers where you will see the biggest differences.

Utilizing a mix of 3 distinct foam types, all of the standard models from Helix rely on some combination of 2 foams to make up the top comfort layer and secondary transitional layer. Softer models, such as the sunset or moonlight, will incorporate softer foams that have less bounce, while firmer models like the Twilight or Dawn will have firmer, more responsive layers that increase support. The 3 foams used are:

  • Memory Plus Foam
A special blend made by Helix, this is the perfect mixture for anyone that wants a soft, enveloping mattress that makes them feel like they are sleeping on a cloud. This can be found in the Sunset, Midnight, and Twilight as a comfort layer, as well as in the Dusk as a transitional layer.
  • Helix Dynamic Foam
As a latex blend, the Helix Dynamic Foam has more bounce than the Memory Plus Foam making it highly responsive and best for individuals who like a more medium to firm feel. As a comfort layer, you can find the Helix Dynamic Foam in the Moonlight, Dusk, and Dawn models, and as a transitional layer it is used in the Sunset and Moonlight mattresses.
  • High-Grade Polyfoam
Designed to create a firmer feel and offer more ergonomic support, the High-Grade Polyfoam is only used as a transitional layer and is found in both the Twilight and Dawn models.

As for the Luxe models, the core upgrades that help differentiate them from their standard counterparts include a:

  • Breathable and cooling Tencel cover that wicks away moisture
  • Thick quilted pillow top that adds extra cushioning
  • New and improved zoned support design that helps reduce back pain

Rating

Giving a general rating for the Helix mattress is difficult because of the vast amount of options available to customers. Unlike other brands that simply focus on one or two different models, Helix has a total of 13 mattresses to choose from, ensuring that there truly is a little something for everyone. Like a medium mattress and usually sleep on your side? The Helix Midnight is going to feel like it was made just for you. Prefer a firmer, more supportive mattress and always sleep on your back? The Helix Dawn will be exactly what your dreams are made of.

Thanks to this wide variety there are soft, medium, and firm models available which are then further broken down into options for side sleepers and options for back/stomach sleepers. Finding the right one for you may seem overwhelming at first but Helix has made it easy with their online quiz. Simply answer a few quick questions about your preferences and sleep style in order to be directed to the right option for you. You can then pick between the standard or Luxe version, depending on your needs, wants, and budget.

Besides ranking well for firmness availability, Helix also stands out for its temperature, pressure relief, and motion isolation properties. Because of its hybrid design, all of the models from Helix do an outstanding job of regulating temperature, with the Luxe models also having an upgraded Tencel cover that wicks away moisture and keeps you even cooler. If you tend to sleep hot then you can’t go wrong with a Helix mattress, no matter which model you ultimately decide on.
